In a recent interview, Deer Jade discusses their experiences from a North American tour and her upcoming involvement at Hotel El Ganzo y Crania’s New Year’s Celebration. She also shares insights on fostering a strong sense of community within the music industry, additionally, giving a glimpse into their plans for 2024, including upcoming music releases and shows.

EG: Hi, Jade! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now?

Dear Jade: Hey guys! Thanks a lot for having me! I’m doing really well. I’ve just got back home in Europe after a fantastic 5-week/15-city tour in North America. Now, I’m taking some days off to travel and work on new music in Berlin. It’s always an exciting time!

EG: Exciting! Also congratulations on joining the lineup for Hotel El Ganzo y Crania’s New Year’s Celebration! You must be very excited to be a part of this.

Dear Jade: Thank you!! I’m really excited about this one since the Mayan Warrior and Maxa families are some of the most wonderful and creative people I know. No doubt they are preparing an absolutely outstanding show for the occasion.

EG: So, what can we expect from your performance? In your experience, do New Year’s celebrations usually require different preparation than usual? Is it more tempting to reach for those classic edits on a date like this one?

Dear Jade: You can expect a lot of fun and groove! I’m definitely preparing an extra special journey for the occasion. Let’s make it memorable! It’s also tempting to reach for more classic edits, although I don’t necessarily need NYE celebrations to do so anyway (laughter).

EG: The event will also serve as a fundraiser for Mayan Warrior and MAXA. How important is it to foster a sense of community in this day and age?

Dear Jade: Community is everything. It is what makes life worth living. I’m so grateful to have the chance to be a part of such a wonderful one like the MW & Maxa families. They were some of the first ones to support me in this musical journey in my early days, having me play at Burning Man and other fundraising events for which I’m forever grateful. So many adventures and transcendent moments together. They are such a beautiful cosmic family that I always look forward to meeting in every corner of the world. Unity is strength!

EG: Are there any other acts you’re hoping to catch? Do you usually find time to see other colleagues at events like this one?

Dear Jade: I’m looking forward to hearing Diplo and Nico Stojan, who are playing on the same day as me. It’s always a great joy to have time to listen to the sets of all the colleagues and friends playing alongside, discovering new sounds, and embarking on new journeys. Although I’m heartbroken that I will have to leave the next day and miss the other artists, with the phenomenal lineup they have prepared: Catching Flies, Dixon, Mano le Tough, Julya Karma, Alonso Rivero…, I leave you in very good hands. Epic weekend ahead!

EG: Your last release this year was your remix for Niv Ast & M Love’s ‘Behind The Grace’. Is there anything you can anticipate on that front?

Dear Jade: Absolutely, I’m incredibly excited to release an EP on a legendary label in March (I can’t say the name yet, but you won’t be disappointed, as well as many other songs later on in 2024. So stay tuned for much magic coming your way!

EG: Now, speaking about current trends in our scene… How do you feel about the rise of these huge LED screens and cinematic visuals? Do they enhance the narrative, or are they just taking too much attention away from the music?

Deer Jade: Nothing is ever all black or all white. Throughout my youth, I was very much into cinematography, constantly making short films. I’m a lover of beautiful images. I do feel like these screens can enhance the narrative, taking people on extraordinary visual journeys that can have a long-lasting impact on the public. Hence, in special contexts and well-orchestrated events, I feel like they can bring great value to the shows. On the other hand, they can also divert attention from the music, from the dance, and from people connecting with each other. Therefore, I truly wish that we also preserve all these events that don’t have screens, so we can keep dancing like nobody’s watching. As a wise man once said, we can only find the door to infinite cosmic bliss inside of us with our eyes closed.

EG: The incorporation of AI in electronic music seems to be on the rise, whether it is in the music, the album covers, or beyond. Do you have a particular stance on this?

Deer Jade: It’s quite mind-boggling to see all the things these new AI tools can do. It is about to drastically change the entire industry and the world as we know it. I feel that if used wisely, AI can increase creativity and help overcome blockages, like an amazing producer friend here to help at any time. If it can give more people access to create music, I think that’s fantastic too. So we can all be artists and express our art. Ultimately, I believe AI is leading us to understand much more about the nature of the reality we live in and the truth of who we are. Exciting times!

EG: Finally, can you provide some insights into what’s next for Deer Jade? What’s in store for 2024? Where can your fans catch you next?

Deer Jade: A lot of new music, with the EP release in March and more to follow. Exciting shows are planned all around. In January, I will be in Central/South America; Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina… Planning proper time off in the studio in February to write new music, then on the road again for the Spring/Summer festival season with some epic shows and festivals already confirmed. I couldn’t be more excited. Stay posted for tons of fun and bliss incoming. Music is life!

EG: Thank you so much for your time, Jade! We wish you all the best for the future. Take care!

Deer Jade: Thank you, guys! Merry holidays and I hope to dance together very soon!
