Jonzing World, the Nigerian record label that ushered Rema and Ruger into Afrobeats stardom, has unveiled the first woman signed to the imprint.
Lagos-raised singer Bagetti is the latest of three new artists unveiled in recent months, joining Gdzilla and Glorious, all hoping to emulate the success of Rema (who’s now a Mavin Global full artist) and the recently independent Ruger.
Teased on social media a few days ago, Bagetti’s unveiling coincides with the release of her debut single, “Hard Girl.” On the song, the new Jonzing singer delivers a buoyant post-breakup anthem, marked by warm keys and Kizomba-inspired percussion.
In her lyrics, she sidesteps misery and chooses to move on assuredly. “Eye wey dey cry no dey see road,” she sings on the second verse, invoking a popular Nigerian parlance.
“Hard Girl” is a notable debut outing for Bagetti, as it highlights her ability to turn relatable matters into profound moments. It also sets an expectant tone ahead of her debut EP, New Dawn, set to be released on March 15.
