Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, a legendary figure in the reggae community and an innovator of dub music, passed away in 2021 at the age of 85. Despite his departure, his final studio album entitled ‘King Perry,’ will be released posthumously. The album is set to be available to the public on February 2nd, 2024, through the record label False Idols. The first single from the album, ‘1100lbs Of Summer feat Greentea Peng,’ has been released today.

‘King Perry,’ produced by Grammy-nominated producer Daniel Boyle, captures the vibrant and joyful essence of Perry’s musical style. The album incorporates elements from various genres and features exciting collaborations with talented artists such as Tricky, Greentea Peng, Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder, Fifi Rong, Marta, Hugo Bechstein, and Rose Waite.

Producer Daniel Boyle fondly recalls his time in the studio with Perry, highlighting the close relationship they shared, which continued until just days before Perry’s passing.

Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s contributions to the genres of dub and reggae are immeasurable. He revolutionized the role of a mix engineer and his groundbreaking work has influenced countless musicians worldwide. His career can be divided into five distinct periods, each leaving a lasting impact on the genre.
